The Abundance of August

Updated: May 2

As we enter the month of August, we find ourselves at a pivotal moment in the year — the First Harvest. Known as Lughnasadh in Celtic tradition, it falls on the 1st of August every year. The first harvest marks the beginning of the harvest season, august is the time when the first vegetables and herbs are ready to be gathered. It is a time to celebrate the fruits of our labor and the abundance of Mother Earth.

In Chinese medicine, August also heralds the beginning of the Earth season, a period associated with nourishment, stability, feet on the ground. And this is indeed a good time to ground ourselves, reflect on how the fire/heart season of summer has inspired us or changed the way we look at our life and our future. Beginning of August is a good time to reflect on the growth we've experienced and prepare for the transition into autumn.

As we embrace these Eastern, Celtic and Nordic traditions, let us honor the cycles of nature and the rich tapestry of cultures that celebrate the interconnectedness of life.

May this month bring you an abundance of healthy harvests, in the sense of joyful memories, transformational ideas for the new semester and treasured moments to sit in silence and let the last rays of summer sun warm you before the colder season sets in.

Warm regards,
